Best local gifts in Vegas

December 16, 2008

By now, you're probably finishing off the last bits of your holiday shopping. Your sled is likely full of more Start Wars action figures, Polly Pocket sets, and Crayola Creativty sets than any child could ever play with.

If you're looking to top off the stocking with something truly memorable, might I offer a few suggestions from our own backyard?

Annual Pass to the Las Vegas Springs Preserve
We're annual pass holders and it's worth every penny. A git certificate for a family annual pass will run you $75. That may sound a little steep in our economy, but when you consider that it gets you admission into two (soon to be three) fabulous museums, one of the neatest playgrounds in the city, ont some fun, stroller-friendly trails, and great discounts at the gift shp, cafe and on birthday party packages, It will totally pay for itself in just a few visits. Nowadays, I find myself giving individual passes and family passes as gifts. You don't have to dust it and the recipients will have lots of great memories to thank you for.

Memberhip at the Lied Children's Discovery Museum
This is one of my favorite rainly day/too hot to be outside destinations with my kids. There's something to engage kids of all ages and they have a blast. Again, you 'll get free admission for a year, discounts on birthday parties, and a great newsletter. You'll also get invitations to members-only events. The cost of the membership ranges $55-75 depending on the number of adults and kids covered by the membership

Ethel's Chocolates
These are great for someone you love, someone you like, and, well, pretty much anyone. While you can get them at nearly every mall in town, it's lots of fun to head down to the main factory and tour the cactus garden (especially when it's decorated for the holdays).

Well, those are some ideas to help you polish off your shopping. If none of those strike your fancy, there's always a set of fuzzy dice.
